Edge Computing & IoT

Connected devices and on-device intelligence — firmware, Linux BSPs, industrial protocols, secure OTA and edge AI for products that must run for years without a reboot.

Overview

From schematic review to a fleet you can update in the field

Part of our AI, Data Science & Emerging Tech practice.

Connected hardware has two lives: the one in the lab and the one in the field. We design for the second — deterministic firmware, a real update path, and telemetry that tells you what is happening before a customer does.

We work across the whole stack, from bare-metal and RTOS firmware through Yocto-based Linux images to the cloud services the devices talk to. One team owns the boundary where most connected-product defects actually live.

Capabilities

What we deliver

Firmware & RTOS

Bare-metal and RTOS development on ARM Cortex-M/R/A and RISC-V. Zephyr, FreeRTOS, ThreadX. Low-power design, real-time scheduling and driver development.

Board bring-up & BSP

Schematic and DFM review, bootloader porting, U-Boot and device-tree work, custom Yocto and Buildroot layers, and mainline-friendly kernel drivers.

Edge AI & TinyML

On-device inference with TensorFlow Lite Micro, ONNX Runtime and vendor NPUs. Quantisation, pruning and the data pipeline that keeps edge models current.

Industrial protocols

Modbus, PROFINET, EtherCAT, OPC UA, CANopen, IO-Link and MQTT/Sparkplug B, including gateways that bridge the shop floor to the cloud.

Connectivity

BLE, Wi-Fi, Thread/Matter, LoRaWAN, NB-IoT and LTE-M, with provisioning flows and certification support for the radio stack.

Device management & OTA

Secure boot chains, signed differential OTA, fleet provisioning, remote diagnostics and rollback strategies that survive a bad release.

How we work

A predictable path from first call to handover

No two engagements are identical, but the shape is consistent — so you always know what happens next and what you get at the end of each stage.

Engagement models

Architect

Hardware and software architecture, protocol and silicon selection, power budget and an update strategy agreed before the first PCB spin.

Build

Firmware and BSP development in short increments on real hardware, with a hardware-in-the-loop rig standing up alongside the code.

Harden

Power, EMC, soak, thermal and security testing. We deliberately try to brick devices so the field never does.

Operate

Release pipeline, fleet dashboards, OTA rollout controls and a sustaining-engineering window.

Outcomes

What changes for you

  • Devices that can be updated safely, so a field defect is a release rather than a recall.
  • Power budgets met in hardware, not hoped for in marketing.
  • One team accountable across firmware, Linux and cloud — no finger-pointing at the boundary.
  • Manufacturing test and provisioning designed in, not improvised at the factory.

Questions

Frequently asked

Can you work with our existing hardware team?

That is the usual arrangement. We take the schematic and the requirements and work alongside your electronics engineers through bring-up and validation.

Do you design hardware as well?

We do schematic and design review, component selection and DFM input, and partner with specialist EMS and PCB houses for layout and manufacturing.

What if our devices are already deployed without OTA?

We have retrofitted update capability onto deployed fleets before. It depends on available flash and the bootloader, so it starts with an audit of what is actually on the devices.
