Software-Defined Vehicle & E-Mobility

Service-oriented E/E architectures, centralised compute, over-the-air update platforms and battery management software — the engineering behind vehicles that keep improving after they are sold.

Overview

The vehicle stops being a fixed product

Part of our Automotive & Mobility Engineering practice.

A software-defined vehicle is not a feature. It is an architectural commitment: functions decoupled from ECUs, services discoverable over the network, and an update path that is safe enough to use on a vehicle carrying passengers.

We work on both halves — the in-vehicle architecture and the backend that feeds it — and on the electrification software that increasingly sits at the centre of the platform.

Capabilities

What we deliver

SDV architecture

Migration from distributed signal-based designs to zonal and centralised compute, service-oriented interfaces over SOME/IP and DDS, and hypervisor-based mixed-criticality partitioning.

OTA update platforms

Differential and delta update packaging, A/B partitioning, staged rollout and automatic rollback, plus UNECE R156 software update management evidence.

Battery management software

BMS control logic, state-of-charge and state-of-health estimation, cell balancing, thermal strategy and ISO 26262 safety mechanisms for the high-voltage path.

Charging & energy

ISO 15118 plug-and-charge, OCPP backend integration, CCS communication controllers and charging session diagnostics.

Virtual ECUs & CI

Virtual ECU environments so software can be built and tested before hardware exists, integrated into a continuous pipeline rather than a bench booking sheet.

Vehicle-to-cloud

Telemetry pipelines, fleet dashboards, remote diagnostics, feature flagging and the data loop that turns field behaviour into the next release.

How we work

A predictable path from first call to handover

No two engagements are identical, but the shape is consistent — so you always know what happens next and what you get at the end of each stage.

Engagement models

Architecture assessment

We map your current E/E topology, identify what genuinely blocks decoupling, and produce a staged migration plan rather than a rewrite proposal.

Prove one path

A single function taken end to end — service interface, deployment, update, rollback — so the architecture is validated on something real.

Scale the platform

Remaining functions migrated in waves, with the CI pipeline and virtual ECU environment growing alongside.

Operate the loop

Rollout controls, telemetry, and the release process that lets the vehicle improve safely in the field.

Outcomes

What changes for you

  • A migration plan with sequenced steps, not a big-bang re-architecture.
  • Updates that can be rolled back, so a field defect is a release rather than a recall.
  • Software that can be tested before hardware arrives, removing bench contention from the critical path.
  • R156-aligned update evidence produced as a by-product of doing it properly.

Questions

Frequently asked

Is SDV relevant if we are a component supplier?

Increasingly, yes. OEMs are asking suppliers for service-oriented interfaces and updatable components. Being ready is becoming a condition of the award.

Can you retrofit OTA onto a platform already in production?

Sometimes. It depends on available flash, the bootloader and whether a trust anchor exists. We start with an audit of what is actually on the devices before promising anything.

Do you cover EV powertrain as well as BMS?

BMS, charging and thermal are our core. For motor control and inverter software we staff specialists through the Talent practice.
